Quick start: build your first app
In this tutorial we start from zero and walk the complete Loambase Foundry path. The goal: turn an external MySQL employees table into a frontend employee-list app with search and pagination.
The whole process takes 4 steps and requires no SQL or frontend code at all.
1. Connect a datasource
First, tell the platform where to get data.
Open [Datasources] in the left navigation, click create, and enter your MySQL connection URL, username and password. The platform tests connectivity and stores your credentials encrypted.
2. Sync a dataset
Once connected, choose the table you need on the datasource detail page (e.g. employees) and click Sync as dataset.
The external table schema is pulled into the platform as a unified raw dataset.
If the data needs cleansing, you can further configure a pipeline to produce a derived dataset. To keep this tutorial simple we use the raw dataset as-is.
3. Model the ontology
Now give the data its “business semantics”.
Go to [Ontology], create a new object type named Employee.
- Bind its underlying data to the
employeesdataset you just synced. - Choose
idas the primary key. - Map
first_nameandlast_namefrom the dataset into object properties, and tick “allow global search”.
4. Build the app
With the business object ready, build the page.
Open [Apps] and create a new app.
- Drag a DataTable component from the left palette onto the canvas.
- In the properties panel on the right, find “Data binding” and select the
Employeeontology object we just created. - Click [Publish] in the top-right corner.
🎉 Congratulations! You just turned a cold database table into a modern web app page with access control, pagination and search.
